What is #ChurchToo?
#ChurchToo is a movement that started on social media to bring to light the sexual harassment, abuse, and assault that happens within churches/faith communities. It is a collective story of individuals who have been harmed. It is also the story of the failure of religious communities and institutions. It is a testament to institutional betrayal, victim blaming and shaming, and the silencing of victims/survivors. #ChurchToo is a movement that aims to end the erasure of the reality of sexual abuse within sacred places, and create lasting change within them. |
While #ChurchToo is a Christian-based movement, there are similar movements in other faith traditions, such as #MosqueMeToo in Islam, #GamAni in Judaism.
