Survival

A poem by Marie Fortune

If the earth dies, it will be from deep sadness.

A deep sadness will be our end.

The tears of the people will wash over the earth

Like a tsunami.

Hearts will break in overwhelming grief.

Not the quake, the water, the fire or the poison.

We will survive these.

But we may not survive the grief.

Thank you for this, Marie. Of all the many words and images coming at us the last seven days, you just said it all.

Beautiful, Marie. I tell our pastors in the UCC in Mass that unless they begin to focus every 3rd sermon on climate change and related topics, within a decade, every single sermon will be on grief.

Thank You Marie,
The earth will survive. It will never be the same, but it will survive.

Like a sprig of green growing between the concrete. We will survive.
We will be changed, but we will survive.

Thank you so much for sharing your poem...it puts the unspeakable at least into a whisper.
